Edward Abbey, "The Only Paradise We Need"

"But love of the wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always
beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth which
bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know,
the only paradise we ever need - if only we had eyes to see."

  1. Wise words and the reason I spent most of my adult life attempting to return to the nature I knew as a child at my Grandparent's cottage on north Bruce Peninsula in the 50's - I live in a forested mountain valley near the ocean with Elk, Bears, Cougar, Eagles and other wildlife for neighbors (a few people thrown in there too). I know I am fortunate to be able to do this, live simply and inexpensively and with a serenity I never had living in the city. I always had the eyes to see this even as a child - I knew it then as I know it now.
