“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.
That myth is more potent than history.
I believe that dreams are more powerful than facts.
That hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death.”
- Robert Fulghum
I’m a Choctaw "Native American"/Euro mongrel; Veteran, US Marine Corps, MOS 0311; scavenging for nuggets of truth and nourishment wherever they might be found. News, random observations, comments, rants, satire and discoveries from the road to NowHere. Economics, science, art, poetry, social commentary, Native American info, politics, rants, satire, nature- always something to think about!
Santayana's famous quote is to often truncated and it's full meaning distorted.
ReplyDelete"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. In the first stage of life the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in consecutiveness and persistence. This is the condition of children and barbarians in which instinct has learned nothing from experience."
